The real estate investment trust, based in Aliso Viejo, California, said it had funds from operations of $32 million, or 16 cents per share, in the period.

The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for funds from operations of 14 cents per share.

Funds from operations is a closely watched measure in the REIT industry. It takes net income and adds back items such as depreciation and amortization.

The company said it had a loss of $3.1 million, or 2 cents per share.

The hotel real estate investment trust, based in Aliso Viejo, California, posted revenue of $214.8 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $205.6 million.

For the year, the company reported funds from operations of $163 million. Revenue was reported as $905.8 million.

Sunstone Hotel expects full-year funds from operations in the range of 86 cents to 98 cents per share.
