National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and Univision 23 Dallas have proudly marked their seventh year of partnership with a community event aimed at increasing breast cancer awareness and screening rates among Latinas in the United States. This long-standing collaboration continues to provide vital breast health education and access to free or low-cost services for those in need.

This year’s event, held in Garland, Texas, honored Hispanic Heritage Month and led into Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It brought together Univision Contigo, The Consulate-General of Mexico in Dallas, and NBCF’s network of community and hospital partners to celebrate and empower women through health education and resources.
Moderated by Univision 23 Dallas news anchor and reporter Andrea Rega, the event featured free medical services, educational sessions, and powerful panel discussions with breast cancer survivors and medical experts.
“This event was unique in its holistic approach to women’s health,” said Cinthia Gonzalez, Sr. Director of Education & Outreach for NBCF. “We wanted to go beyond breast cancer and provide comprehensive information— from nutrition to essential screenings. Understanding risk factors and taking preventive action is key, and we’re committed to equipping our communities with that knowledge.”
Breast cancer survivor and NBCF event volunteer Nohemi Villalobos shared her perspective: “This event created real awareness and lasting impact. It’s changing how our Hispanic community views women’s health. There’s a growing sense of unity among us as we learn to prioritize our well-being.”
More than 500 community members attended the free, family-friendly event—most of them women seeking the tools and information to take charge of their health and continue showing up for their families. NBCF’s ongoing campaign, “Ama a tu familia amándote primero” ( Love your family by loving yourself first ), reinforces the importance of early detection and prioritizing women’s health.
