SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov 3, 2025--

Torus today announced the appointment of William (Bill) Comeau as Chief Utility Officer, to advance utility partnerships and grid integration as the company builds America’s next generation of energy systems.

Comeau joins Torus after more than 25 years in the electric utility industry, including senior leadership roles at PacifiCorp, a Berkshire Hathaway Energy subsidiary and one of the largest regulated utilities in the Western United States, serving more than 2.1 million customers across six states.

Most recently, he served as Vice President of Customer Experience and Innovation at PacifiCorp, leading several of the company's successful programs, including pioneering energy storage and grid flexibility initiatives. Under his direction, these programs helped customers save millions of dollars, reduced system load, and were recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as a leading example of the nation’s top virtual power plant — or VPP — program.

As a pioneer and thought leader in virtual power plants, Comeau led groundbreaking demand response programs that strengthened grid reliability during peak hours and advanced some of the country’s earliest large-scale VPP projects. This work gave him a unique perspective on how utilities and customers can modernize the grid together. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Commonwealth Edison in Chicago and has served on multiple industry and community boards, including the Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors and Junior Achievement of Utah.

“Bill brings a proven playbook to our utility customer base that combines VPP best practices and a modern approach that enables utility operators to move quickly and install Torus systems on the grid economically," said Nate Walkingshaw, CEO and Co-founder of Torus. “He knows what utilities need to deliver reliable, affordable power while navigating the grid’s transformation. His track record of deploying grid-scale innovation and making it work for millions of customers makes him the ideal person to lead our utility strategy as we scale nationwide.”

In this role, Comeau will lead utility strategy and partnerships, working directly with utilities across the country to integrate Torus’ hybrid inertial-based battery systems into utility operations, grid planning, and grid-scale deployments. Torus systems combine high-speed mechanical flywheels with advanced batteries, delivering instantaneous frequency and voltage stability, and sustained energy support. His arrival comes as utilities nationwide face unprecedented pressure to add new capacity while maintaining grid stability — a challenge Torus technology is designed and engineered to address.

While Comeau’s initial focus will be on utility collaboration, Torus systems are also deployed for data centers and commercial and industrial customers that require highly reliable, non-combustion power solutions. This combination of utility and customer applications gives Torus a unique position in strengthening grid stability across both sides of the meter.

“I’ve seen firsthand how Torus technology strengthens the grid,” said Bill Comeau, Chief Utility Officer at Torus. “Utilities are looking for stable capacity they can deploy at scale and cost-effectively. Torus delivers that, and I’m excited to help utilities across the country deliver low-cost energy storage solutions.”

The announcement follows Torus’ expansion into GigaOne, its new 540,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, designed to enable large-scale production and delivery of its systems nationwide. Located in Salt Lake City near I-80, I-15, and major rail transport lines, the facility underscores Torus’ commitment to U.S. manufacturing and a secure domestic supply chain for critical energy infrastructure.
