NEW DELHI (AP) — Kuldeep Yadav snared three wickets in the morning session on day three as West Indies stood on the brink of following on in the second test against India on Sunday.

West Indies was 217-8 at lunch on the third day, with Kuldeep Yadav taking 4-72 in 22 overs.

At the break, Khary Pierre (19 not out) and Anderson Phillip (19 not out) were at the crease.

India leads by another 301 runs, after it notched up 518-5 in its first innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) and Shubman Gill (129 not out) both scoring centuries.

Starting Sunday at 140-4, West Indies batters looked to gain time after a decent outing in the final session on day three.

Overnight batters Shai Hope and Tevin Imlach survived 6.3 overs before India found a breakthrough when Kuldeep Yadav bowled Hope with a delivery that took a sharp turn past the bat.

Hope scored 36 off 57 balls, with five fours. It was his 31st consecutive test innings without a half-century.

In his next over, Yadav had Imlach caught at short leg. There was drama as the batter reviewed the decision but the DRS found Imlach (21) lbw instead, as West Indies sunk to 163-6.

Yadav then added a third wicket for the morning, when he trapped Justin Greaves lbw for 17.

Mohammed Siraj bowled Jomel Warrican (1) as West Indies lost four wickets for 19 runs across seven overs.

Pierre and Phillip then dug in for 93 balls, adding 42 runs in an unbeaten ninth wicket stand before lunch to steady the tourists.

India is 1-0 up in the two-match series, after it won the first test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs.

West Indies has not beaten India in their last 26 tests — home or away — dating to 2002.
