Some Los Angeles fire hydrants ran dry in recent days as demand soared for water to quell fast-moving wildfires.

Local officials say that was driven by an incredible demand on a municipal water system not designed for fighting fires. But it's prompted political criticism from President-elect Donald Trump and others, who blamed Gov. Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass's water management policies.

Officials and experts say critics are connecting unrelated issues.
