Purpose of Videos

Okinawa Prefecture accounts for just 0.6% of Japan’s land area, yet 70.3% of U.S. military bases in Japan are concentrated here. Today, 80 years after the end of the war, the Okinawan people continue to suffer unreasonably under the burden of these bases.
Okinawa has tried to spread the word about the bases issues numerous times before to spur a national debate regarding alleviating this excessive burden, but the younger generation’s responses have been along the lines of “It’s not that I don’t care about the bases issue, just that I don’t understand it well enough” or “I’d like to know more, but I don’t know where to start looking.”
This is why we have created this series of short videos that people can easily watch, selecting the topics they are interested in. The videos use a dialogue format between specialists in each topic and people from the younger generation who are working to spread awareness through social media.
It is our hope that through these videos, many people both in Japan and overseas will be able to see that alleviating the excessive burden of these bases on Okinawa and the achievement of world peace are issues that directly affect them as well.
