Driver who killed 6-year-old girl convicted of murder

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A driver who struck and killed a 6-year-old girl as she played on a Southern California sidewalk has been convicted of second-degree murder. Maximino Lagunas of Anaheim was convicted Wednesday for a 2018 accident in Fullerton. Prosecutors say he had a blood alcohol level that was more than three times the legal limit when his SUV went out of control and drove up onto a sidewalk, hitting Grace Aguilar. Lagunas was charged with second-degree murder because he had a 2015 conviction for driving under the influence. Prosecutors say he was advised at the time that he could face murder charges if he killed someone while driving drunk.
