Number of School Shootings Cited in Report is Wrong

In their effort to pass over-reaching gun control legislation, many of those on the left have cited a U.S. Education Department study released earlier this spring that reported during the 2015-2016 school year, “240 schools ... reported at least 1 incident involving a school-related shooting."

But, an opinion piece in the Washington Examiner notes NPR decided to check the numbers in that report and found that the Department of Education was just plain wrong.

NPR called each of the schools cited in the report. After months of calling, of the nearly 240 shooting related incidents reported, only eleven were confirmed.

NPR reports in 161 cases school representatives said nothing happened or it wasn’t a shooting incident.

No one knows what caused the so-called error.
