In spite of pushback from left-wing politicians and the ACLU and threats of boycotts from the Hollywood elite, the Georgia state legislature on Friday passed a "heartbeat bill,” banning abortions after a heartbeat is detected.

The Washington Examiner reports the bill passed the Republican-held state House 92 to 78, largely along party lines.

The bill bans abortions after six weeks, instead of the 20-week window currently granted under Georgia law.

The legislation is similar to heartbeat-focused bills proposed in states such as Ohio, Florida, and Texas.

In a statement Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said that he will sign the bill in the coming days.
