Stacker highlights the 50 biggest dog breeds, according to the American Kennel Club, from the Irish setter to the mastiff.

Stacker compiled a list of the most popular dog breeds of the 21st century, examining numbers from the American Kennel Club's most popular dog breeds from each year since 2000 and ranking them by their average, 20-year popularity.

Stacker looks at 25 dogs and what they were bred for. Some breeds are thousands of years old, while others were just recently recognized by the American Kennel Club.

Using data from the American Kennel Club to rank dog breeds in the Sporting Group, Stacker has compiled a list of the best dog breeds suited for hunting. Each of the 32 dog breeds in this group is ranked by its AKC 2018 popularity rank, which was released in March 2019.

Using statistics and information collected by Best Friends Animal Society, which runs the largest no-kill sanctuary for animals in the nation, Stacker has created a list of animal shelters that took in the most animals in every state in 2018. The information collected is from Best Friends Animal Society's dashboard, which consists of self-reported information provided to the society using its save rate calculation.
