It’s Not About Something To Be Thankful For

I have been trying since the weekend past t0 make a single point – that we should be thankful. Not wait around for something to be thankful for, but for what we have now, in this moment, even if it is not exactly what we want or somehow less than ideal. Thankfulness as an attitude makes every thing better.
Paul says such is God’s will – “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
The Psalmist calls us to enter with thanks:
Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with jubilation;
Come before Him with rejoicing.
Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving,
And His courtyards with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting
And His faithfulness is to all generations.
Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Gratitude is a predicate, not a result. Today, of all days, let’s practice that.
POSTSCRIPT:
Be thankful that the National Guardsmen are still alive. Be thankful for the protection they give us.
The situation in Hong Kong is horrific. While praying for those involved, be grateful you do not live there. I have been there several times and while I do not know these specific towers, they are of a type, quite common in that densely populated city. This is a nightmare.
